Yes, here it is, a new way to donate to the Kona BikeTown Africa program.       

For 2009, we have added a fresh, easy way to donate to the program for everyone who's looking to make a tax-deductible contribution. Thanks to the newly formed non-profit Kona Basic Needs, donations can be made straight to the program by visiting the site and becoming involved. It's easy and takes as little time as clicking send!

BikeTown Africa Spin-A-Thon

Time to get those legs in biking shape while raising funds for the BikeTown Africa program. That's what folks in Blacksburg, VA are doing.

On Sunday March 29, from 12:30pm - 5pm at the Blacksburg Health and Fitness at the Weight Club, the "Africa BikeTown Spin-A-Thon" will get the wheels rolling as spring starts to shine and cycling season starts.

What's the deal?

If you're in the Blacksburg, VA area during the Spin-A-Thon sign-up and hop on a stationary bike to raise awareness and funds for the program. Virgina Tech honors student Christine George - who raised $10,400 for the program last year - will be giving a BikeTown Africa presentation along with the University Honors department. Teams and individuals are welcomed to spin for four hours to music and encouragement from the Weight Club cycle instructors. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Biketown Africa program and help donate Kona AfricaBikes.

Cost is $50 for individuals and $100 for teams. For more info CHECK HERE.

Bellingham Ride Benefits BikeTown

For most of us shuffling through the winter months, the bike hanging from a hook on the garage wall has been doing nothing but collecting dust and suffering from deflated tires.

But all this can change.

If you're in the Bellingham, Wash. area over the weekend of March 28-29, then hop on a rig and take part in the March of the Moles benefit bike ride.

The ride will cover 21-miles of pathways past Lake Padden and around Lake Samish.

The entry fee is $25, which includes the ride, a water bottle and a raffle ticket to win a Kona AfricaBike and other prizes. People who register before March 22 will get an extra raffle ticket.

Half of all entry fees and all raffle ticket money will go to the Kona BikeTown Africa program.

Join BikeTown Africa At Annual RAGBRAI Ride

That's right. This summer, become a part of the BikeTown Africa experience by joining our team and riding the famous RAGBRAI race. The seven-day race/ride across the state of Iowa in mid-July will feature a BikeTown Africa team that will ride Kona AfricaBikes while educating people about the program. There will be special guests involved as well - possibly of the tall, famous professional basketball type.

Updates For BikeTown Africa 2009

As the year pushes on at a fast clip, details and logistics are starting to be nailed down for our upcoming BikeTown Africa projects for 2009. Keeping in form with last year's success, the program will look to donate roughly the same amount of Kona AfricaBikes(if not more) to home healthcare workers in sub-Saharan Africa. For '09, the program is tentatively looking to donates bikes to areas in Tanzania, South Africa, Burkina Faso and Mali.
